I may trade an AR for a couple glocks and I had a question. One of the glocks is a gen 4 23. I was wondering if I could install a gen 3 19 slide on the gen 4 frame and vice versa.

No. A gen3 frame and a Gen4 frame are different. The Gen 4's have a wider duel recoil spring.

    Incorrect.

You can put a Gen 3 slide on the appropriate sized Gen4 frame, but not vice versa. It will work fine. Cosmetically, you will see a cyclops smile on the front of the gun when you do this.

However, there are other considerations if you are changing caliber. Obviously, same caliber switches are no problem, but when you move between 9/40, the ejector (not extractor) is different. A 40 ejector will work for both, but a 9 bent ejector has some risk (bent ejector tip puts it very close to the primer).
