I don't mean swap a gen 3 guide rod into a gen 4 slide i know that wont work (but i think someone does make an adaptor so that you can but im not sure) i was thinking more like taking a gen 4 full size frame and putting a 17L or 24 upper on. Just a idea i had pop into my head while sitting around bored but didn't know if it would work.

I don't think it will work. When I called for my Glock frame upgrade (recall). Glock told me it would be a 3rd Gen. Frame and that a Gen. 4 would not work with a 3rd Gen. Glock.

The gen 3 slide works on a Gen 4 frame, but there is a space where the dust cover is. The gen 4 slide on a gen 3 frame will not fit due to the dust cover. I have not heard if anyone has test fired in this configuration as of yet?

    It's pretty nice
Been using a G3 on a G4 27 for six months or so. The others will work G3 slide on G4 frame but not the other way. The Glocks that used DRSA's before will work either way.

Gen3 slide works wonderfully on a Gen4 frame. I ran this configuration on one of my USPSA limited guns while Gen4 35 slide was being updated.

It looks like a radiator vent for an air-cooled recoil spring. :)

I wondered if this configuration would function, but up until now had not seen it reported. Thanks to all for posting the results of your experiments.

Yes, it does, perfectly. The barrel end becomes a cyclops.

I like to swap parts and such with my Glocks. I have primarily Gen 3's right now. I have a Gen 3 19 that I put a Lone Wolf 40 cal slide (G23) on it, but swapped the ejector. Runs like a champ.

    Q:
    I was thinking of getting a Gen 4 17. That way I can shoot 9 naturally, but I want to shoot 40cal w/o getting a Gen 4 22.
Can I swap out the 9mm ejector for a 40cal like my example above and put a Gen 3 slide from my 35 or 22 on it?

I know, get the 22 and put a conversion barrel in it. I don't own a G17 of any kind, so I was leaning that way.
