I have a Gen 3, model 19 and just purchased a Gen 2, Model 17. The recoil spring is different. IS this right?

When the Gen 2, Model 17 handgun is field stripped, and the recoil spring taken out, the spring will just slide off the rod. Is this right? There's no "screw" to hold it all together on one end of the rod.

    thanks!

Yep, the recoil springs are different. The 19/23 is shorter than the 17/22.
The difference you are describing: one is captured, the other is not.
