I've got 2 gable fans in my barn; they are thermostatically controlled.

Could I wire in a humidistat before the thermostat and have that work just fine?

Seems to me like it would work, but I just wanted to check as I have no clue. :dunno:

What specifically do you mean by "before the thermostat"?

Do you mean wire them so that either the humidistat or the thermostat can start/run the fan? You can easily do that by wiring both switches in parallel.

That's what I figured, but just wanted to check.

i.e. set humidity to 73% and temp at 85*. If the humidity reaches...wait...maybe I should do them the other way around?

My main culprit is humidity and I have some semi-serious rusting issues.

Hell -- I may just put a dehumidifier out there and be done with it... :embarassed:

If you wanted the fan to run only when both the humidistat and the thermostat "agree" that it should run, then you would wire the two switches in series.

Sounds llike you want to wire ththem in parallel. Otherwise it would have to be at least 73% & 83* to set it of, not either or.
