Hi all, I just wanted some input on this matter. I'm a LEO and looking for a back up to my G21sf. I was thinking of going with the G19 but carrying another caliber wouldn't make sense unless I go with a G17 for duty use. Thanks for your input.

I'd keep it simple and get a G30. Same caliber, interchangeable mags.

  3. No brainer, G30. Same ammo and you can use the G21 mags.

I'm not a LEO, but staying with the same caliber for ammo/mag commonality makes perfect sense to me. Why complicate things with another caliber?
  5. I own and carry Glocks in both calibers, but you already know the answer. A Glock 30 makes good sense, although I MUCH prefer the G36 Slimline .45. It is RELIABLE, in my experience, with any commercial ammo like Winchester, Hornady, GoldDots, and the like. It does NOT like SWC reloads and will not feed one about once in every mag.
For a backup, you would likely be happier with the G36, as it is totally reliable, a thinner slide (like the 9mm's), and holds 6+1 which should do you okay.
I finally sold my G30 as the slide was too "fat" for me to carry IWB.
The G36 carries just as nicely as a G19.
    best regards,

i go back and forth with this as well. I carried a 30 in a 5.11 push pack with 4 extra loaded mags and recently switched to a 19 in the same pack with 4 extra mags as well. I like the 19 a lot better, its lighter/thinner/easier to shoot one handed/holds more bullets. But who knows maybe ill go back to the 30 next month :)

    What makes a good BUG?
    1. it must be SMALL, the smaller the better!!!!
    look at the G26, G27 or G30 w/o extension

2 always use the same caliber

In theory a secondary gun of the same caliber as your primary gun seems like the best choice. In practice if you are more likely to carry something smaller/lighter then that will be the best choice if leaving the bigger one at home that day might have happened. If ther G30 is always going to be with you then its the best choice in my opinion. If not a G26 or J frame that is with you is best.

For size purposes, I'd go with a G26/G27/G33.
  11. If I were going for a hideaway gun in 9mm, I would go with a G26. That being said, if I were wanting to stay with the same caliber as my duty weapon, I would go with a G30SF. A G36 is narrower and lighter but doesn't use the same mags as a G21, so it's either carry 2 different mags, or use the G30, which would allow you to use the same mags and ammo as your G21.
Best of luck, and stay safe. These are just my opinions.

I myself have been trying to decide what I like carrying better on the vest. My .38 wasn't bad and I bought a PF-9 to try but the cheap uncle mike holster sucks. So I'm leaning towards gathering funds for a 36 and having a kydex/Velcro backed holster made for it so I can wear on the vest with confidence.

I hate to echo but the 30 is way more practical for you situation. However, my 19 is the best Glock that I have ever owned and I have owned 9 of them. So I would think about the 19 for sure. The Gen 4 19 is the best Glock made.

It would be silly for him to get a G36 since the mags ARE NOT interchangeable. Defeats the purpose....In that case he may as well go with the G19. Especially since its a whole lot better pistol than the G36.

The G36 is a POS IMO and the G30 is not far off. The 2 worst Glocks as far as im concerned. Owned a G36 and shot a G30.......

Both have an issue of pinkie pinching. The G36 has a lot of felt recoil, IMO, and both have more history of FTFs than any other Glock.
