What is the difference? Why cant the G17 barrel be used in the G22
You "can" put a G17 barrel into a G22 slide and fire it. Before you go running off telling everybody that you "can do" I want you to take the following information into consideration:
The 9mm barrel diameter is about .020 smaller than the 40 barrel diameter.
The 9mm barrel hood is about .030 smaller than the 40 barrel hood.
With this in mind, WHY would you even consider doing this? The 9mm barrel will slop around in the 40 slide. Just because you can do something does not mean it is advantageous.
FYI: LWD 9mm conversion barrels are built to the 40 barrel specifications and chambered in 9mm. The LWD conversion barrels are safe to fire in a 40 slide for this reason.
Ah, ok. My intention was not to use the 17 barrel in the 22 slide it was to have a complete 17 slide on the 22 frame. I was just curious as to whether the locking blocks were any different. Thank you for your honesty and i will not promote using a 17 barrel on a 22 slide. I wouldn't want to do that in my gun and would hope that no one else would either
Yes you can install a G17 top end onto your G22 frame, they use the same locking block. In this case, the only other part I would change is the ejector. This is because you are dedicating the top end to function with a certain cartridge. Whatever the cartridge, stick with the appropriate ejector.
The good news is: You do not have to switch complete top ends. All you need to do is pick up a LWD 9mm conversion barrel. Drop it in, use the correct 9mm magazine and you are off and running! Way cheaper using the LWD conversion barrel (route)
This is true! and probably what i will end up doing. So if i was to order a 40-9 does the "blind marked" barrel cost more?
You can custom order any LWD barrel:

Yes it adds a little to the cost but that’s because you are ordering a custom barrel.
