It sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

If there is going to be an area of "free speech"; the poor, the substance abusers, and the addle-minded all have their chance to be heard as well.

  5. What an insult to the winos, druggies and homeless to imply they didn't know about OWS (and the free food, free clothing, free shelter, abundant drugs, LE-free zone and potential victims) until the cops told them about it.

The writer obviously has an elitist attitude.

That thread delivers all kinds of good info.

Inspector Tony "Pepper" Bolgna got sent to Staten Island and lost 10 days.

They have a security team in the park that make a show of force in the sucky section of the park.

The security team searched tents (without warrants natch).

I'd be willing to bet SI is the forgotten bourough and promoting to the higher end of the PD must be hard due to being so far away from HQ.

His career advancement is probably stalled but he will be closer to home and family. Of course for some guys their marriage depends on them being away.

A site that a lot of NYPD cops rant on. Used to be called the NYPD RANT if I am remembering correctly. It is also trolled by NYC press and NYPD IAB rats.

Interesting, any expectation of privacy in a public park? I would think no. Or does setting up a tent=domicile? I can see in a campground, rented space designed for that purpose. Are they squatting in the park by trying to set up a tent? Is there really any issue there? Any precedent anywhere for something like that? Got me curious...

We have a lot of voluntary homeless in town, even before OWS and whenever we can we will get a search warrant for a tent. We did it for a homicide once. I think a few others we have done when the campsites are more enclosed. A tarp between two trees over a sleeping bag on pallets? No.

Best I can tell, "the 99%" claim that all rich people, people with jobs, poor people, criminals, homeless people, etc., are in the 1% - 99% of Americans are just voluntarily unemployed college dope-smokers who need something to do between Phish shows.

Phish is playing in the area in November and December - bet 75% of the protestors disappear for the shows.
