Spin off from the Rifle thread. If you were starting from scratch BUT held the knowledge of firearms you do now what FOUR pistols would you buy first or consider absolutely essential? Again respond as minimally as make/model/caliber or as detailed as to why and explain the intended use.

    My choices:
#1 Ruger Mark III .22lr (I have a standard but any config)
    target practice/plinking/fun gun
#2 Glock 26 (subcompact carry gun)
comfortable carry gun with alot of firepower!
#3 Glock 19 (close to full size but still concealable)
carry gun/home defense, a very nice compromise
#4 Glock 23 (.40 SW is a powerful little round)
same as #3 but makes bigger holes

    Glock 26 for carry

    Glock 17 for competition

    S&W 625 for awesomeness

Well, I'm not sure if this is cheating.

But, I"d get the Glock 19 because it is a 9mm and an AA kit. That way, you get .22 to learn, but you get the same trigger pull and consistency.

    G26 great for everyday carry
HK USP 40 tough as hell and reliable
G19 everyone needs to own at least one

A compact carry pistol: Glock 26, M&P9c, etc.

A compact revolver: J-frame or the like.

A full-size revolver: My choice is a Ruger Security Six, but anything quality in .357 or bigger.

A .22: Ruger Mk or 22/45 series or the like.

    S&W 17 (K-22), Charter Bulldog .44 special, S&W 629 4", Glock 20.

This is assuming I can reload.

If Glock offered a compact frame 10mm I would replace the G23 with it.

I can't CCW in my state. If I could a Walther PPS 9MM would be in the mix.

Glock 23 or 22 with conversion barrels for .357 Sig and 9mm AND a .22LR conversion kit

    S&W Shield in 9mm

S&W j-frame...your pick on model and barrel length OR S&W 686 in either 2.5, 3.0, or 4.0 inch barrel lengths

Glock 36 or 30SF (more likely the latter due to the full size mags being available to feed it)

If Dan Wesson's "pistol pack" were still available I would replace the revolvers listed above with the complete pistol pack (yes I know they called the revolver kit a pistol pack)

Ruger Mark II if you can get one, III if not - 5.5 or 6.785 barrel.

    Glock 17 - rugged, accurate, 9mm excellence.

A .45 1911 from reputable manufacturer in a good model; because everybody needs one.

Ruger GP100 or S&W 686 - robust, reliable, accurate, and highly versatile. If I had to limit the list to one handgun, this would be it.

Glock 19. This is my current EDC and I love it. Good for carry, good for HD, just good. If I could only have one handgun it would be this (and it just so happens to be)

LCP? P238? 642? Sometimes the 19 is too big, and when it's too big, it's WAY too big... But I don't have a gun for this role yet so I'm not positive what it would be.

Colt series 80 1911. I know 1911 guys like the series 70... But I like firing pin blocks. They make me feel safer :dunno:

Barretta 92. Probably an M9 to be specific. I would have no purpose for it... I just kinda want one because it's the sidearm my country's soldiers have been carrying for my whole life. I'm not a soldier, but I am thankful for what our troops do for us pansies back home and I think the M9 would be a nice reminder for me.

Knowing what I know now and with my preferences taken into consideration, my list would go like this.
G36 ccw, actually in all honesty I prolly would have a lite weight commander instead.
    Pf9 ccw deep cover
    Railed 1911 home defense.
    Either a 22 conversion for my 1911 or a beretta 92.
