I've been looking for a used 4" S&W for a while now, and one of the LGS came through. Took a peak in one of their cases and found a model 28 in excellent condition for $450. For now it's on lay-a-way, but I'm thinking this may become my winter carry gun when I bring her home.

Congratulations. It's hard to beat a 4" 28. I've got one that I paid quite a bit more for than that, so I'd say you got a great deal (mine did come with box and papers). Enjoy it when you get it.

The worst part of layaway is waiting. :)

That is indeed a deal. I just got one from my LGS in 98% or better condition for $550. No box, no papers. I know I paid top dollar, but I had the money and I wanted it. Life's too short to play "could have, would have, should have".
