  1. That sounds like the old phone to fm radio call that used to be made a lot. Not done much nowadays.

A patch- through is when one calls dispatch and they transfer your call to an officer or medical or whatever. Its not call forwarding as dispatch can listen in on your conversation.
Thats what they call it around here.

  7. The transfers were normally done at communications centers for the leo. This was before modern cell phones in the late 80's. It is still used in some areas where cell service is not the best. It is now used in buildings etc and is very useful and cost effective.

To be fair though, even given the whole "Not more than 10 years imprisonment and/or not more than $10,000 fine" thing for revealing classified information, it is an affirmative defense if you "only told a really close friend while drinking beer".

I don't know if they still do but when I was working there was a category of Deputy in Fl that was "Special Deputy". They could be fully sworn appointed by the Sheriff.

most of those in that category were actually employee's of some big business or large land owner (Like Lykes bros. in Fl) near as I can tell Louisiana has the same "special Deputy" category. it would not be surprising someone working in that category would not have the same knowledge or experience as a regular Deputy.

Someone in that category could legitimately claim to be a fully sworn Deputy\LEO and still not have a clue on how police work is actually done.

I imagine it would be pretty easy to get Special Deputy status if your cousin is the Sheriff.

I actually saw two incidents where the BS detector went crazy. One started with a T (though I would not have picked up on it if Rabbi and TBO had not) and the second was a poster with a three-word username.

I think most southern states have that. I have a friend who has one of those and whipped it out constantly. Finally, I had to tell him, "Don't you think there is a good reason I never tell anyone where I work?"

This thread is full of win. Well done, gents.
  19. I think they also have that in some Yankee states too. Then there is also the "constable" question like in Pennsylvania where the position serves papers and warrants and they can be lawmen but not know anything about being a leo. You guys have made some very valid points.
