I bought an older Remington Wingmaster police model, I showed it to a co-worker, and he suggested I get a flex tab modification for it. I called a local gun shop and gunsmith said he has never heard of a flex tab. Is there such a thing as a flex tab?

Yes, Part number F93339 with the black bolt and #93340 with the chrome bolt on the 2010 Remington parts list. It shows Law Enforcement restricted but they may have lift that so call. I don't know as I am a Remington LE parts dealer. It is rediculous for them to restrict it as it is simply a new breech bolt, a new slide and a new carrier, all of which you can buy seprately. I swear I don't understand Remington some times.

You will get a new breech bolt, new slide and a new carrier. To see how to change the carrier go to www.aiptactical.com and watch the video "Carrier Dog Follower Spring" since you have to take the carrier off to change that spring the video can also be used for changing out the carrier.

Yes, there is such a thing. I'd be a little worried that the gunsmith didn't know what it is.

Look at your shell carrier... The flap that you have to push out of the way to load the shotgun? See if it has a square U shaped cutout. If not, then it's a pre flexi-tab shotgun. You can buy an upgrade kit from Midway or Brownell's for around $90 or so.

Here's the link for the one on Brownells:

    Enjoy your new shotgun. :)

Hi there. I didn't realize that JD beat me to the punch by two minutes. :)

He's a better reference for these questions, but...

As far as I know, there is no stainless bolt. There are chrome plated bolts and nickel plated bolts. I *BELIEVE* that there is a chrome plated bolt upgrade kit, but you'll have to ask JD for the part number. The new bolt WILL fit your shotgun regardless of age, but you will have to use all the parts from the upgrade kit. I'm told that using the old bolt with the new carrier negates some or all of the benefits of the flexi-tab upgrade. I was in the same boat myself.
I ordered the upgrade kit, and then ordered a chrome bolt. Then JD told me that I could have just gotten an upgrade kit with a chromed bolt, or bought a new carrier and bolt...

    Good luck.
