I had an issue with the firing pin stop on my new RIA compact and was advised to put a new one on my gun. Several I found say they may require minor fitting. Is this minor enough that I can do it myself?

    Thanks,
    Jethro

If you can file/stone evenly, you should be able to install it.

It is easy to do. I always put an oversized firing pin stop on my 1911's.
You will need either very fine files or stones to get the thickness so that it holds the extractor tight and fits into the frame grooves.
I then finish it with 400g and then 1000g sand paper.
if it's a blued or parkerized gun simply cold blue it with some bluing paste.
It usually doesn't take me longer than 10 minutes so it isn't difficult.
