Ok which one and why? I don't want to spend mega bucks but would still like something decent. Who has what to offer on the subject?

hummingbird and eagle(lowrance's cheaper line) is pretty much it, especially for low price. tried hummingbird once, still have it and my dad and i are having probs with it. i'd get an eagle.

basspro, wal mart and academy(if you have one there) will be about the best price and should have both.

    good luck.

I settled on a Lowrance...seems to be a nice unit so far. We caught 4 bass yesterday but it was a slow day on the water. Try try again today. TONS of fish on the finder but couldn't get him on the line.

I used to have Hummingbirds, but have recently bought a Garmin. It is a very nice unit and can also interface with Garmin's GPS units if they have the NMEA (?) capability.

Even the cheapest Lowrance is better than the best Hummingbird. As already posted, the Eagle is the Lowrance entry level models, they won't be as good as the regular Lowrance, but will be better than the Hummingbird.

    Good luck on your hunt!

I like a Bottomline for my icefishing forays. Works well.
