A Springfield Loaded model is a nice choice. Plus you will have some money left over for new grips, ammo, sights, etc.

    Or a Colt XSE.

The best $1000 1911 in my opinion, is the STI Trojan.

The STI has a good trigger and the Range Officer is another good option.

I just saw an auction on GB for a Kimber Classic Gold Match, with ~200 rounds through it, for $950 shipped. Those bargains aren't available every day, but they're out there. It's a much more expensive pistol, but you can surely find a slightly used one for <$1K.

The Trojan is the best value at $1000, in my opinion. Its an outstanding 1911 for the range.

Brand is just personal opinion. I own five 1911's. My favorite is the Colt.

There's alot of nice guns in that price range. But i'm semi-brand loyal in the non-custom guns. If you don't care if it's got the pony on it,your right on track with Springfield. jmo.
