I am looking at buying my first 1911 later this year. I would like to spend around 1k. I would like to add the 1911 to the carry rotation so I was looking at something commander sized with a 4" to 4.5" barrel. I stumbled across the STI Guardian and like the look of it. I would buy it in the 45ACP. It looks like no one in my area sells them, so getting my hands on one first is going to be very hard, if not impossible. I found some places that sell them on line for just under or just over $1000 plus shipping. That seems to be right in my price range. I am a bit worried about buying a gun that I will never get to see or touch until I own it. The STI seems to get good reviews and looks like a good bang for my buck. So whats everyone's opinion will this be a good choice for my first 1911?

Here is a link for a dealer selling it for $999 and free shipping

  2. STI is a great choice. And the Guardian is a fine model for your first 1911.

Get it and don't look back.

From my expirience handeling expensive and cheap 1911s is that they pretty much feel about the same, as long as they have the same style frame and mainspring housing. The only thing you would miss by buying before handling would be the overall impression of the build. If the company and model have a great reputation, I see no issue with buying an unhandled 1911 online.

Great pistol and STI is a great company to deal with. I've bought from Oak Hill and it is a quality business. Good luck

The Guardian is an excellent pistol. Very accurate and reliable as all STI pistols.

I normally don't like large roll marks...but STI's just work, to my eyes anyways. I am particularly fond of the Trojan model, but yours looks very nice as well. I have a full size .45..but I wouldnt mind adding a compact one day. Maybe in 9mm.
