After countless time spent reading this forum (among others), and trying different 1911's at the range, I purchased my first 1911 today: a Springfield Range Officer! Haven't had time just yet to get to the range to shoot it, however I had some pretty standard questions to ask.

    1. Grips? VZ, Alumagrip, Larry Davidson? Pictures of anyone's grips on their own RO would be great!
    2. Ammo for range and home defense for 1911? WWB and 230 gr. gold dots?
    3. Mags? Read a lot of good reviews regarding wilson combats, if they are good, which type of wilson is best/preferred?
    4. Cleaning... can Hoppe's #9 be used?

Links to stores or online websites to any of the above mentioned would be very helpful.

    Thanks guys.

Congrats on your purchase. An excellent choice. I use Wilson Combat 47 D mags. They work well and are well thought of.

There are several good good defense rounds available. Speer Gold Dots and Hornady are popular.

There are hundreds of grips available for 1911's. And for that and more just hang out here awhile. You are in the right place for 1911 advice.

    1. Personal preference. Here are a couple Larry Davidson Wyrm grips on my RO. I also like Davidson's Horned Lizards but don't have a picture on the RO.

If you want fancy, look at the Esmeralda grips...

    2. Sure, those should be fine.

    3. I like the 47D Wilson. The factory mags work fine with mine, too.

    4. Yes, if that's what you like.

Many congrats, my friend. I use Remington UMC ammo in mine. My grips are aluminum grips from Hogue:thumbsup:

Congrats on a good choice for your first 1911. Your factory mags should be fine. See how they work before you replace them. Grips are totally subjective. I use Alumagrips, but have had LDs and loved them. As for SD ammo, I use GoldDots. YMMV. For cleaning, I use CLP and lube with SlideGlide and Ed Brown oil. Again, congrats, welcome to the Dark Side....and...

Thanks guys! Keep it coming. As for the pics, here are a couple I have taken thus far. Also, should I take advantage of the Loaded Coupon that the RO came with? Not sure how competitive the listed price for mags is.
