Well here it is. My girlfriend bought me this for christmas!! (We exchanged presents early due to the demanding nature of the holiday season in my line of work). She was with me at the fun store when I looked at it about a month ago and she vehemently talked me out of buying it then. Her case was that I needed to save money...I should have known

I have yet to shoot it, as I am temporarily TDY for work (live in Atlanta, stuck in Montgomery, AL for 3+ months). Im scouring the web in hopes of finding a good range in this locale to test it out. Hopefully I can squeeze a range session in before this weekend.

Finally got to hit the range today!! I'm pretty sure I drove through a tornado to get there, but it was totally worth it. :wow: I only brought two guns: my new Kimber and my Glock 29 10mm. Right off the bat I was amazed with the difference between the trigger pull of the two weapons. After shooting the 1911, it feels like the Glock trigger takes forever to break. The grip also intrigued me. I am so accustomed to the Glock platform that at first, the 1911 felt foreign in my hand. This sensation disappeared quickly though. Overall, after the first few magazines of familiarization I feel that I hit my stride with the Kimber. I sent a few bullets lower than I wanted, but I'm sure I can correct this issue over time.

Just for fun, I shot my new gun today without a proper cleaning to test its reliability. As expected, today I fired 150 flawless rounds out of a gun that had not been cleaned. Overall, I'll rate this as the best Christmas present of my life!! :jumpingjacks:

I traded my Ultra Carry for a Compact SSII mianly because the extra inch looks much better.
I did have to send it back after the break in period, brass was ejecting towards my face, jamming, etc. However in my experience their customer service was good; they fixed it in a timely manner without any BS. Plus while they had it I had a solid trigger and night sights installed.
I also hate plastic mainspring housings and got an aluminum one from Brownells.

I really like the Compact SS II, pretty sure the only other model Kimber with an officers frame and 4" barrel is the fancier looking (& expensive) CDPII.

I love the CCO sized 1911's. I have a Colt CCO and a Les Baer Stinger, but would gladly add a Kimber like yours to my collection if I found one at the right price. Congrats!

My preferred size of 1911 and I'm sure you will be satisfied with it. Have a great Christmas!! (It seems like you already are :) )

Thanks for all the kind words!! I feel like I won the jackpot and am beyond excited to test it out. It seems I have found a suitable place and will give it part one of the break-in on thursday. I will certainly report back with my results
