I used to be able to go to any site and use the ctrl + function to increase the size of font & text. I could go page to page and the size would remain the same. Now when I increase the size on the GT home page and click on a thread the size reverts to small again. Using Win7 if it matters.

    Check your configuration file.

In the address bar, where you would normally type in a URL, type in this text:

    about:config Press 'Enter'

When the config screen comes up type zoom into the 'Filter' text line to get a short list.
browser.zoom.siteSpecific should be set to true
browser.zoom.full should also be set to true

If either of those is not correct then right click on the line and select 'Toggle', from the options menu. You can also set a minimum zoom value with zoom.minPercent That sets the minimum font size for any page, any site.

Some config changes are immediate, some need a browser restart. I don't know about the zoom but I'd close Firefox then open it back up and see if that fixed the problem.
