Went to a gun show tonight with cash in hand from the recent sale of a safe queen. Was hoping to find a nice selection of HKs to handle, with a rough idea of what I did/didn't want depending on how they felt.

To my surprise, I came home with what was originally a distant third on my list. As a previous USP (9c) owner, I thought I'd go back to that model in .40. The .40 has really grown on me over the years; it's just is a caliber that works well for me.

My other thought was a HK45c, having heard so many good things about it and being plenty comfortable with the .45 from 1911s and my G30.

I scoured the rather large show for a good two hours, seeing who had what and in what variants. I should have known that my first stop was going to be where I'd end up.

First HK I came across (pictured below) was a P30 in .40, variant 2 (LEM with no decocker). The sales guy must have thought I was a loon. I went back to him 3-4 times before finally committing, after bouncing all around the show, handling every HK I could find (USP, USPc, HK45c, couldn't find a P2000 though).

Wow. I know the sales pitch for P30 vs USP is improved ergos, but I had no idea a gun could be this comfortable. Still fiddling with grip panels and backstraps to see what works best, but this thing is pure joy in the hand.

The HK45c was a close second, but I don't think there was much question for me after handling the P30. Maybe Santa will bring me a 45c. (I've been good, honest I have!)

Off to the range tomorrow. Enjoy the pics.

First off, you made a excellent choice!

The P30 is has the best grip out of any HK that I've ever had period. Even my favorite HK45 takes second place to the P30 in the grip department! For me to say that says something.

While I like all HK's, the 45c feels great in my hand but doesn't work well for me in actual live fire. It's weird how that happens. I have noting against the gun. I was going to get one a while back until I shot it. It's weird how a gun can fit and feel so well in the gun shop but not work well for a person when they get it to the range.

I really wish they would have used the P30 grip system on the 45c. It would have made all the difference.

The P30 is my favorite polymer .40 of all time followed by the USP.

The P30 in .40 is very controllable and so far, is the most accurate polymer .40 I've ever owned. I still have mixed feelings with the LEM trigger in the HK's but it my favorite DAO trigger system offered in a polymer gun.

You can never go wrong with any HK.

    Congratulations!

P30 is the nicest feeling pistol I've ever held. Congrats on your acquisition.

    Congratulations!

    I own that exact model.
    P30 40 LEM V2.
All I added was night sights.
And converted to Light LEM with OEM factory springs.

But truly they are very close to perfect right out of the box.
I would have been happy with the gun bone stock.
And have never even fooled with the grip panels - LOL.

    Enjoy!

What's even stranger is that I'm the exact opposite from you Deanna - LoL!

The P30 feels great in my hand, but doesn't work well in live fire.
I'm not crazy about the texture.
And the grips are too narrow and twist in my hand.
I added Hogue rubber finger groove sleeve and that solved the problem.

But HK45C at the range is nothing but sweet.
That conventional, flat, sort of 1911 angle, grip just works.

We really have to shoot a gun to get to know it.

Again, great choice. I did change out the hammer and fp block springs so its now a vTLG. Its probably going to be my idpa gun for ssp and my G17 will get hotrodded into esp and ipsc limited.

Thanks for all the great feedback. Didn't get to the range this weekend:crying:, but will make time this week. Can't wait to try it out and see what this LEM is really all about.

As I've said before, LEM is a fantastic trigger for a carry piece. You can't get much safer than a long trigger, hammered, firing system. That said, it takes more work to master than a striker fired trigger.

I just find the P30 a tad big and heavy for carry, especially compared to a compact Glock.

The HK 45c is sweet and I was bummed that it didn't work out better for me because I wanted one so bad! :crying:

It's really strange how one gun can fit someone so well and fit the next person like a pair of skinny jeans on Rosie O'donnell.

I agree and I will add that I find myself more consistent with the LEM over a striker fired system.

Congrats. I really like the P30 every time I handle it. I don't like the LEM set-up, but that's just my opinion and apparently enough people do.

I am all M&P for consistency, parts and redundancy or else I might have a P30 and SP-01 Tactical or Shadow. Maybe one day once I feel 'comfortable' with the stockpile I'll branch out again.
