Wow, 40 cal 180gr federal ammo. I have been looking all over 4 them (not just federal but any), Just purchased a used glock 23c. Then a closer look at package and it reads not for use in ported or compensated barrels. That waz a shocker, any thoughts besides don't use em? Purchased @ w-mart.

Thankz, I spoke with someone about it. They said that ammo is not the most powered, So they may put that on box to keep folks from griping about recycling issues/ with ported barrels.:dunno:

I"m not sure about that. I have shot several hundred rounds of Federal from Wallyworld, red box and have found it has way more of a kick than any other ammo and have seen on other forums where people agree with me. Last range visit with my G21sf and loaded every other round with Fed then Winchester white box and could really tell the differance, same with Tull, rem, UMC etc.

I can tell the Fed ammo is a lot weaker then the WWB ammo.

Well why is that on there box? I also have a box of 9mm purchased a year ago with the same message on box. If you know what the reasoning is let us know, I do not.

    Are they using plated bullets?

If they are, ports have cut through the plating causing the bullet to deform and screw up the barrel.

How about this? The factory says not to do it, so don't! Shoot something else.

There is a reason the factory put that warning on the box. They probably lost money in a lawsuit when the porting shaved some copper off the bullet and the copper wound up in somebody's eye. That's the way warnings come about!

The factory didn't just get up in the morning and decide to limit their potential market. There's a reason...

There is a reason . . . Federal HAS stated that the thin copper plating may strip off and cause damage/injury, so don't use with a compensated or ported barrel.

Well, then, that's the end of the discussion. Don't use Federal with a ported barrel.

Wait.............lets be clear, are they referring to all Federal ammo or just the cheap Champion stuff. There's also American Eagle, Hydra Shok, Guard Dog, etc.

Yes as stated earlier, the plating is very thin on these to cut back on costs. That is why you are not supposed to use them on ported weapons.

I think its just a warning so they don't get sued when stuff gets in your eye like posted prior. Just like how you shouldn't use your beach towel for protection from a hurricane warning.

I find Federal AE FMJ to be hot ammo. I like it for al-round.
Not sure about the ported thing.
