linuxquestions.org for general, all purpose questions. Has a sub forum for almost every distro of Linux available.

    ubuntuforums.org for specific, Ubuntu help.

Favorite Apps.. really is pretty similar under Linux, as it is under Windows

VLC, MPlayer, Gimp, Open Office, Chrome, Google Earth, Transmission, Pidgin....

If I had to pick "Linux Only" apps as my favorites, it would be Audacious and Rhythmbox.

If you are setting up a new Ubuntu, Kubuntu system then after the install go to:
    http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Lucid

Everything you need to know about installing and doing anything.

This site is one of the main reasons I stick with Ubuntu. Nothing like it for any other distro that I know of.
