I see guys using G17 length barrels in G19's, G35 barrels in G22's, etc.. Is this really worth the fugly look, inability to use fitted holsters, larger profile, etc.? It doesn't add any length to your sight radius, and as any real Glock owner knows even the G26 with its short barrel is plenty accurate at normal handgun engagement ranges. I've been considering a threaded KKM for my Gen 4 G19, but that's for reasons other than extending barrel length. Do any of you use extended length barrels? Or is this just something folks do when they don't know any better? What do ya think? Discuss.

I can see good use for them to get extra velocity out of hot hand loads for hunting. Even if not for hunting, higher velocity is the only reason to do it. I would never use a barrel not specifically designed for the gun in a concealed carry gun.

I'm sure there are those that like how it looks. While they do not make the firearm any more accurate, the longer barrels do give you an increase in muzzle velocity over the shorter barrels. I don't do it myself, but I also don't care if other people do.

    I use a G35 40 to 9mm LW barrel in my G22, so I can use it in both a G22 and a G35.

I don't care if others do it. And I understand the increase in velocity. But is it really worth it? Less than an inch of barrel can't help that much. I might be tempted to get a 6 inch G20 barrel for hunting. But for carry? No way.

IMO, just get the factory threaded barrel for the extra half inch and put a thread protector on. Nice tactical look.

Oh AND best of all ...it's ready for silencer use!

    No. A G34 barrel in a 17 will work. G19 barrel in a 26 will work, but, a 17 barrel in a 19 is a no-go. The barrel lugs are different.

:) Well, Mike, I was going to offer you a cogent answer; but, then, I saw your avatar photo, and changed my mind. Anyone who doesn't know any better than to fit his frame with a grip counterweight really shouldn't be complaining about those of us who know a lot more about extended barrels and how to use them properly than you do.

    (Fair enough!) ;)

  10. I've never seen anyone put a longer barrel on a carry gun.

As others have stated the longer barrel dies give you more velocity. Each inch gives you about 25 fps more velocity.

Also some states have minimum barrel length laws for hunting, and our northern neighbors in Canada have to meet minimum barrel length laws so the only way they can own a g19 or g26 is if it has an extended barrel.

posted from my stupid smart phone, please excuse any spelling mistakes.

Three of my everyday carry guns and three very easy-to-find holsters:

The first three pictures are G-21's. I carried them this way for almost 8 years; and survived an armed confrontation while doing it, too. The last picture is of my recently acquired G-19(RTF2). (The one Bar-Sto Precision made me, and my weak heart, wait almost 7 months to finally obtain an extended barrel for.) ;)

Why do you post if you don't care if others do it? Why do people stipple their guns? Why do they put colors on the lettering? Why do they polish the barrel? Add steel pins? Port their guns? Spend money on parts versus training?

    Because they can.
