Why the heck is this thing so expensive?

    http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=24833/Product/AR_15_M16_KX3_FLASH_SUPPRESSOR

Is there more to it than an open tube?

is it any better than this?

    http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=13016/sku/Levang_Linear_Compensator

I have one of the latter, works just fine, makes my SBR much quieter...

I'm just not understanding why the other one is so freaking expensive...

I don't have experience with either, but I would guess perhaps the type of material used could be different, one could require more machining/time to produce.
Maybe the more expensive one goes through more rigorous QA.
then of course there is also the name factor, noveske is known for quality parts that many will say are worth the price.

Same principles as what makes a ferrari more expensive than a honda.
they are both cars, both do what they are designed to, they just go about it a little differently.

the pig is designed to push the blast along the travel of the bullet, and increase back pressure to make SBR's run better.

It also isn't just a tube like a golf ball launcher. There is a cone on the inside as well.

I will take the easy answer. Because that is what the market will bear. :) If they where not selling them at that price I bet they would change something.

My current plan is to get the Novske when I order the stuff for my SBR but will research it more when I am ready to spend the money.

+1. The gases are trapped between the walls of the inside cone and the outer shell thus increasing backpressure. It's fascinating ATF didn't classify it as sound suppressor.

I kinda think this discussion proves my point a bit...

The "cooler" "more expensive" one must be better...

As for cycling, my 10in SBR has the "cheap" one on it, never a cycling problem... but then again it don't have a cycling problem with the standard flash hider on it, it just rang my ears more.
