Just purchased an early Glock 17L with meprolight adjustable night sights and Austrian proof marks, serial number DB42X US.

Couple of quick questions because I have been away from the Glock scene for a few years.

Are there any upgrades that I need to be aware of?

Is it possible to send the gun back to Glock and have an updated frame installed?

    Many thanks

You can pay glock to update the frame

Call glock they will tell you if you have any issues with your glock

That's a first-gen. frame, and many people would pay you to get it. Even though it's used, you might get enough to pay for the upgrade to a newer-generation frame. First gen frames haven't been made for almost two decades now, so there may be some good demand.

No doubt it's been used, but it's worth a lot more as is than it would be after you pay $150 to put a mismatched frame on it.....there just aren't that many first generation G17L's, it would be a real shame to alter it.

If you would, what is the date code on the barrel? (the three small letters to the far right of the serial number on the barrel hood) Thanks!

Bless me father for I have sinned. The 17L was number 401 in production numbers for the 17L's. It was born in June of 1988.

My son visited the Glock mothership in Smyna, Ga this week. I had the Glock tech's upgrade the original parts and install a different sight. The frame was left intact. They test fired the gun and it shot a group of less than an inch at 20 yards. I decided to go with a shooter intead of a piece of history.

I have 17L D*-189, barrel date code stt. Found it in a pawn shop years ago.
I don't think it has ever been fired.

Also have Model 24 serial number AU*-002, According to Glock it is the third production model 24 made.

Thanks for the info, but I need both letters of the prefix. If you x out the numbers that would be sificient to insure privacy. Feel free to PM me with the prefix if you would! Each prefix potentially has 1000 guns with it numbered 000 through 999.

And in case no one has said it yet, Welcome to GlockTalk!

    Excellent!

G17L prefix DA was the first batch of 1000 made and imported in April of 1988. The second batch of 1000 had the prefix DB, made in May of 1988 and imported in July, 88.

    Thanks!

I know you already know about mine, Butch... but I still have to brag about my G17L :)

    My G17L is "DA152"

I believe that the very first G24s started out at alpha prefix "ATA".

How about some eye candy? I did have it upgraded(with the exception of the disconnector)last year when I shot it at the Weld County GSSF match.

I turned down an AR-15 for it at Hallsville. Now I wonder who was crazier. Me for not swapping, or the other guy for offering.

Haven't made up my mind if I'll take it to Grand Island in June. I shoot one of my standard 1st gens better. But it's not like anybody has to worry about getting beat anyway.

    Enjoy.

    twerpy.

Hi Rob, it looks good, but I think that if you look under the goodyear thingy you'll see some grenade checkering.....

I just bought a third gen off Buds, I am wanting to get into practical shooting and thought this would be a good pistol for it...
