Last night I helped my older son switch his Dell laptop from XP to dual boot XP and Ubuntu 9.04.
First off, it had a Dell (Broadcom) wireless card which was not recognized from the LiveCD but we wired it for the install and the wireless was fine after the first boot.
I have not done a dual boot in a while and the repartitioning was dead easy.

I have been using Linux since Red Hat 5.1 and I am not all that often surprised by a distro anymore. Ubuntu 9.04 surprised me.
First off the install went flawlessly, a good thing! But during the install a prompt asked about importing XP settings. I was unsure but clicked yes.
When the system booted up the desktop image was the same as in XP! All the firefox bookmarks were imported into Ubuntu, the XP partition was mounted and a bunch of settings were carried over.
    I was impressed.
    Well done Ubuntu crew!

My first ever duel boot experience was with 9.04 64 bit and vista 32 bit.

I installed it on the computer of a former co-worker who now runs his own computer repair business. He had been talking about wanting to give it a whirl so I burn all four versions of 9.04 to disks and drove down to see him. He was very surprised at how easy the Ubuntu install was. In fact, he told me he has spent all day (10-12 hours) reinstalling XP on some machine he fixes. :wow: 9.04 was running duel boot in 40 minutes (including media codecs and programs),

Hopefully he sees the light and starts to migrate some systems of his customers who only need a netbox over to linux.
