Has anyone ever donated a car to charity?

I have a car I was going to keep as a winter car, but decided to donate it instead.

Searching on the net I find many companies that will accept the car, however not to many of them mention how much money they keep vs. how much they give to the charity.

Which brings me to my question.

Has anyone donated a car to charity, and if so who and why?

    Thanks

One of our local wrecking yards has a donation program.
Wrecked my car. Called them and they came and towed it to their yard.
    Signed paperwork transfering title,etc.
Asked if I wanted to donate to charity.
Picked the charity I wanted and they sent them a $50 check.
Haven't done it with a running auto yet.

i donated a car some time ago.i was able to write off the book value of the car. i took highest value v lowest value and split the difference. i think i paid 100.00 for the car and wrote off 850.00. just make sure you get the paperwork on your donation.
