    I didn't know him personally, but he was on the medical staff at the hospital I work at. I had seen him a few times around the building, but I don't work in pediatrics, so I never got to know him, though many others speak very highly of him. He made the world a better place for a lot of children and their families and his contributions to the medical community will be missed. RIP Dr. Liu.

    Damn. When I think of all the dirtbags in this world, and then to lose a guy like that. Just damn. Maybe a little later on his kids can get a little comfort from knowing that their Dad was in fact a true hero.

    Something like this almost happened to me as a kid (getting swept out by rip currents). A flotation ring, vest, boogie board, or SOMETHING you can use to stay afloat is critical equipment when near water, IMHO. It is just like having a concealed firearm.
