Do you care about another Israel/Hamas conflict? Why should we?

Can someone please explain to me why I am supposed to care about one group of religious fanatics battling another group of religious fanatics over some proffered "holy land"?

What is this, "Lord of the Rings"?

    The twelfth century?

Let them kill each other. All in the name of god's eternal love.

So much to say....but eventually the world gets tired of their bs. I will not cry when they nuke each other off of the planet.

    controversial, but enough already....

You don't have to care but some do because they see one group of people being prodded by another group of people to make war with a third group of people who both of the aforementioned have vowed to exterminate.

I see you and the guy you voted for have something else in common.

Hmm...what possible impact could there be to the US if a full war breaks out there?

Are you really that dense that you cannot figure out some impacts by yourself?

I don't simply because I know very little about the situation. I know that to me, listening to the back and forth about who starts what round of attacks sounds like a little schoolboy argument about "Who hit who back first" and "Did not....did so....did not....did so.

Neither side seems to care one bit when they kill civilians and non-combatants as long as they can tie the deaths to an act of "retaliation" for earlier "acts of aggression". Of course the other side uses the "innocent's deaths" as a justification for rocket/bomb attacks for which there simply MUST be retaliation for the act of aggression.

I just really don't get too bent around the axle about the whole affair. Peace in the ME? LOL.

While there are certainly some religious fanatics in Israel. Israel is a secular state and most Israeli's are not religious.

For what it is worth, Israel is a pretty secular country with a religious tradition (and some religious folks)

Its Islamic neighbors are pretty much guided by relgious fundamentalism.

I can prove it. (broad brush but it is what it is)

The Jewish holy books pretty much say "kill your enemy"

The Islamic holy books pretty much say "Kill your enemy"

Israels Islamic neighbors are very vocal about destroying Israel...flat out, total destruction.

Israel CAN destroy all of its neighbors, and doesnt.

The entire situation can be summed up in a pretty simple rhetorical question(s).

If *POOF* the Islamists had no weapons starting right now, what would happen to them ? If *POOF* Israel had no weapons starting right now what would happen to them?

If you dont know the answer to those questions, you are not paying attention, and that is OK but please dont form an opinion if you dont know what is going on.

If Hamas, Hez'ballah and their ilk ceased to exist tomorrow, does anyone here HONESTLY believe that Israel would fanatically wage war against the rest of the world? If Israel, on the other hand, were wiped out tomorrow, does anyone here realistically believe that the fundamentalist Islamicist forces would stop waging war against all who disagree with Islam and simply return to their homes?

Come on, folks! Israel is fighting because groups like Hamas have vowed since their inception to DESTROY THEM. It's even written into Hamas's constitution. Other enemies, like Iran, have openly, publicly vowed to "wipe Jerusalem from the map" while building the weapons to do exactly that.

Anyone who thinks the Hamas/Israeli conflict starts and ends there, or will go away should Hamas win, is hiding their head in the sand.

    Oh, USA
What would happen if the people of Israel got their dream solution? They would live in peace with their neighbors? I think that would be a reasonable expectation.

What would happen if the Arabs/Palestinians/Hamas got their wish? Every Jew in the world exterminated? Hmm. We have one side that wants to exterminate an entire religious/ethnic group based purely on race hate.

Not a good precedent given that they hate Americans only slightly less than they hate Jews.

Strategically important ally comes to mind. Best source of Middle East intelligence also comes to mind. Israel is both.

Israel is a state. Hamas is a terrorist organization.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 40+ years or have never been anywhere other than college since leaving home, it is an easy decision choosing who to support.

Remember when those Jews crashed airplanes into The World Trade Center?

Oh that's right, it wasn't Jews it was muslims.

I just want to make sure I understand some of you correctly.

Just to be clear, in the Israeli / Palestinian conflict you're on the side that routinely targets innocent women and children, that routinely treat their wives like property, that routinely kill their daughters for talking to boys.

That supports Al Qaeda's stance to ban music, dancing and colorful dress. That danced in the streets when terrorists crashed airplanes into The World Trade Center that killed 3000+ Americans. That kill, behead, and drag thru the streets their own people.

That would kill you and me just for being Americans.

That has routinely stated their goal is to wipe Israel off the map.

That's the side you're backing in this conflict? Do I have that right?

Personally, I find much of the expressed Anti-Israeli sentiment from people that can't stand that fact the Israel is a democracy. Most of these are Intellectuals who wish to see Plutocracy instituted, both hear and abroad.

I'm not saying Israel is blameless here. They have a history of using a heavy hand in dealing with Palestinians. Dropping 1000 or 2000 pound bombs and firing DPICM into civilian area cause a great deal of collateral damage.

Previous generations of Israelis made more use of special ops/targeted killing of extremist threats.

It's other peoples' wars in other peoples' countries. Unless they begin threatening us, there's no reason we should care.
