When my wife shut her computer down last night it asked if it wanted to implement the update that she had loaded.... only she didnt load an MS update.

When I woke my computer up this morning it started a count down to restart after having installed some update.

Did they push something that installes itself or is this some malware trying to install itself.

I'm going to run SB and AA right away.

My guess is that you both have Automatic Update turned on.

I've never seen a Microsoft update do a count down to shut down. It should promt you for a restart.

    Very strange.

Usually it just tells you that an up date's available then you have to follow the link, start the install, then initiate the recall.

This one just says Automatic Updates is trying to restart your computer and gives you a 5 minute countdown. It poped up once more while I was running AdAware. AA didnt come up with anything.

    I'm keeping the research up.

I had that on both my computers the past day or two. It prompted me for a restart

Just as I was reading the last response it did it again. I hit print screen then killed it.

    See attached.

We run a SUS server at work, which basically just pushes out updates that we approve to all of our machines. We get the same countdown as you've seen. I've never seen it on a home machine, but I'm sure it's perfectly OK.
