Dell USB Port on Monitor?

Discussion in 'Tech Talk' started by Adjuster, Oct 13, 2011.

  1. I purchased a Dell computer for a friend who is not a computer guy and I am setting it up. The Dell Monitor has built in USB ports on the side and back. What type of cable do I need to hook these USB ports up? Normally I would think it would be a cable with two USB male ends. However on the back of the monitor I also see a little square port. Like the kind that would be on the back of a printer. Is this the type of cable I need, a USB printer cable?

  2. Yes, one like for a printer. The different ends (thin rectangle and square-ish) are called USB A and USB B connectors.

I just got two new Dell 22" monitors at work, and the damned things don't have USB. I have my old 22" monitor sitting on my desk just acting as a USB hub until I can get a new video card.
