after looking online, in magazines, factory catalogs, and at all my local gun stores, i believe i'm as ready as i'll ever be to purchase my first AR. i own a few handguns(glock23, colt combat commander .45acp, taurus millenium 9mm) and a few long guns that include hunting rifles, .22 plinkers, and my turkey killer, but now not only do i have the $$ but also the blessing of the boss aka wife. i really like a couple of the daniel defense rifles i've come across and there are a couple of new ones on their website i hae yet to see/handle myself. i value the opinions of the people who frequent GT so before i run off and drop $1500 on a rifle i figured it would be prudent to see what yall had to say about these rifles. i'm not super particular about anything out of the ordinary, just want a pretty standard AR. 16'' free floated barrel, mid length gas system, 6 position collapsible stock, full length quad rail, flat top...just a solid, dependable gun. i plan to add some goodies including high end optics(i like all of the big names but the aimpoint w/ magnifier is at the top of the list but eotech and acogs are right there), a surefire light, and vertical grip. what is the general reputation of the daniel defense line of rifles? have there been any problems that seem to pop up over and over with these? if there have been issues with them i will be a little disappointed but glad to be informed prior to purchasing it. if that's the case i guess i'll just have to go with a colt; according to popular opinion i can't go wrong there. thanks for your input.

My first AR was a DDM4. Being my first, I have put alot of ammo down range with it(2K at least) It's current config is a ACOG with Doctor optic.

To be honest I really liked the irons that came with it, but never owned high end optic and was so impressed with this carbine I went for it.

I even tried my Leopold VXII 4x9 tactical on it one day and it did very good out to 400yards.

In my opinion it is a top notch rifle with all quality parts, I have never had a single stoppage and have fed it Wolf, PMC, and Green tip.

thanks for the input, i just happened to find my way into a local gun shop on my lunch hour today and fondled (sounds dirty) the m4, equipped with an adjustable stock, forward vertical grip and what seemed to be nice buis, lots of rail space to add on to my hearts desire. they're asking $1450- too much? also checked out the fn scar in flat dark earth- very visually striking rifle, $2500 bare bones. right now the daniel defense has a commanding lead for me, what kind of price should i be looking for?

A little on the high side. Look around more online and what not. $1200-$1250 range is more like it.

For a DDM4? That seems a little low.....

I purchased a DDM4 recently for 1389 out the door. They range from $13-1550. If you can find one in the 13's that a great deal, 14-15 is a good all around deal.

So far I LOVE this rifle. When I purchased it I got the rifle plus 1000rnds of .223 for 1600, can't beat that with a stick.

it's final, decision has been made to purchase the ddm4, tax return should be deposited in the next week. also found a promotion for a $250 "black fund gift card" with purchase of a new rifle, it's like a sore peter- can't beat it! also took a look on their website at all their other rifles(ddm4v2, ddm4v3, ddv6.8, ddxv, ddxvm) and after briefly contemplating between the m4 and the not-yet-released ambush 6.8(potential for hunting), the m4 takes the cake. now if uncle sam would just hurry up...

    Yep,....seems a tad low. :dunno:
If you ask him nicely, maybe he'll pass along where he's quoting that price.
