Craigslist makes turning food stamps into cash a SNAP

    From the article...
Okay, solution is make the cards photo cards. Cardholder can't get in for the photo? Then you can't go shopping for yourself, so you get to designate an authorized representative. who will have access to your EBT food benefit and/or cash aid benefit account. The AR will have a separate card with his or her own account number and PIN. The EBT system is able to track which card is used to access your account. The AR will have their photo on their card.

That should prevent selling EBT cards.

That might "embarrass" them. Never happen.

Yep, steps need to be put in place so that this isn't just free money that can be so easily traded or sold for cash.

I searched Orlando's craiglist and found some. Same for Jacksonville and Miami.

Huh. Going rate used to be 50 cents on the dollar.

It would never happen, but simpler would be to use public school cafeterias as night / weekend soup kitchens. If you can get to a school with your appropriate ID demonstrating eligibility in hand, then you get a warm healthy meal and you go home. "Have a good night, see you tomorrow."

School aged children can get additional meals at the school during the day.

Back in my supermarket manager days, when paper stamps were used, that was the going rate. Some things never change, especially welfare abuse.

Simple solution: eliminate the entire thing.

Why the hell should I be forced to subsidize someone's twinkies?

Because a stable food supply is the basis for civilization, and when you're hungry laws don't really matter. Go ahead and shrug off the poor, Atlas, and see whqat happens when a roving gang of them storm your place and kill you for your twinkies.

The entire SNAP budget is about $74 Billion a year. Significantly up since the big recession.

Just think. The yahoos in the House of Representatives wasted about $24 Billion in 3 weeks.

    Perspective... It's what's forgotten.

For those of you who prefer data and research instead of unsubstantiated anecdotal "evidence"

How about how much those idiots have wasted over the last few years trying to repeal Obamacare? How much could we have accomplished if the children in the house hadn't been throwing a 2+ year long tantrum? Just their salaries alone while they all sat round wasting our tax money on doing nothing when they should have been doing their jobs is significant.

But a social program with a 1% fraud rate is a big deal yo!

Any comments on the well researched piece I linked?

Or would you like to get all worked up over the Faux Outrage piece posted at the top of the thread?

This way of thinking only achieves two things over time:
    1) Increase the number of those dependent on assistance.
    2) Decrease proportionally the number of those producing enough in excess of their own needs to provide that assistance.

By natural law there can be no other outcome.

I love people who quote "sociology" hypotheses but have obviously never taken a real sociology or anthropology class.

As if a sociology class is necessary to see something so painfully obvious...

    You're very young aren't you?
Live a few years, keep your eyes open, and you will see the elemental truth of this.
