I purchased a Kahr MK9 Elite 2003 via special order through a Gun Store a few years back. I shoot the gun occasionally, but I doubt I have much more than 500 rounds through it. After my last trip to the range where I went through about 100 rounds, I took it home, cleaned it and found a crack in the slide. The crack is located in the front of the slide between the hole for the barrel and the hole for the recoil guide. I sure hope this is under warrantee. Didn't Kahr have a lifetime warranty and then changed it?

  2. I'm afraid it's yours to look at unless you want to spend some money to have it repaired.:crying: I also have a MK9 with the famous crack. I use it like it is and consider it a stress relief point.
Maybe you'll have better luck with the nice persons at Kahrs customer support than I did.

A few years ago Kahr said they could grind/cut that spot completely and shoot the gun fine. I believe someone here saw the demo and said the gun fired fine.

The crack (according to Kahr) is cosmetic and does not effect the firing cycle or the safety of the gun.

If it was my MK9 I'd still push them to fix/replace it.

I also paid extra for the Elite version so obviously aesthetics are part of the package. If I didn't care about the aesthetics, I would not have paid extra for the elite.

It also (I would assume) lowers resale value.

About 5 or 6 years ago, the same thing happened to mine at about 3 to 400 rounds. I sent it back and Kahr replaced the slide, no charge. Got about 3,000 more rounds thru it since then with no more problems.

Talked personally with Justin Moon at an NRA convention a short time after that, and he told the same thing about cutting that web out and the gun would still function fine. I'm still glad Kahr replaced the slide.

Well, they want me to send it in. The shipping is going to be around $50. If its under warranty, do they reimburse the shipping?

When I sent my PM9 back they did reimburse me.
But why so much? I went to FedEx and got their smallest box. Packed up the Kahr, insured it for $600.00 and sent it overnight, adult signature required for around $32.00.

    Why $50.00.

    Fed Ex quoted $48 on a 2 pound box 4" x 6" x 8". I think the MK 9 weighs 22 oz. The PM 9 weighs 14 oz.

Well... I called the gun store where I purchased it and they had to dig up from their records that the purchase date was 7-7-05, so I am good to go right?

Looks like I have till July to get it fixed. From what I have seen I am not the only one to have this problem. It must be a design flaw. I hope they have remedied the flaw on the new guns. Otherwise what if the new one cracks after 7-7-10?

Kahr said they would not reimburse for shipping handgun to them even though its under warranty. I talked to the gun store I purchases the MK9 from and they said, "we'll ship it to Kahr, they'll make it right."

One of the benefits of patronizing a good gun store!

In case you live in northwest Ohio, the store is:

    Clelands Outdoor World in Swanton.

I just got a MK40 that looks like it was produced in 2002-2003 and I hope I don't encounter this issue.

What years were most common with this crack flaw?

Don't know. I bought the gun new in the summer of '05.
