Just picked it up at the LGS for $599. Haven't shot it yet but having had previous sigs before I know it's going to be more accurate than me and reliable.

CPO Sigs are a great deal. I love Sigs, I have three of them. My P239 was CPO made in 1995. It has been perfect, and for the last year has been my daily CCW.

I dont see it getting replaced anytime soon. The P229 is a great gun. Enjoy it.

Thanks. I wish I knew when it was made as the spent shells didn't come with it. Plus it's a non-railed version so I'm assuming it's an even earlier design? I don't know too much about sigs.

Also When did Sig stop making the Non-railed version of the P229?

Got my CPO .40 p229 about 2 years ago for $400 and couldn't be happier. Went to a random LGS and was going to get an SP2022 9mm that was new but they also had a fresh p229 CPO in stock and I just couldn't pass it up.

Just responded to yah in my profile.
I would've made the same decision. I have the sp2022 but nothing feels like an all metal classic non-railed sig. Btw great price on that CPO!

Whats the serial number prefix? I'll tell you when it was made.

You might want to try the E2 grip kit. I got mine from top gun for 65 dollars shipped(with 2 spare springs) and it makes a world of difference. Congrats on the purchase!

Thanks for the suggestion. I've felt few E2's and I don't like the smaller grips for some odd reason. I have small hands but I work better with the medium/large grips... Go figure.

I guess the A1 was actually an AI. I might have just read it wrong. But yes, it looks to be a 1998-2000 if in fact it's an AI model.. Thanks a bunch

Congrats on your 229! I like the non-railed frames too.

I've got short fingers but large hands, large gloves are fine on my palm but a little long on the fingers. The 229 I put the E2 grips on is an AL code.

Quick question: did the E2 you try have the short trigger as well? I found I like the E2 grip but I cannot stand the short trigger on the 229, but I love it on the 225(go figure).

No silly rail is right!

I think so. Because the trigger I tried was SHORT. I dislike it very much. All original size for me. If I do change it I might go with the woodgrain grips. Shown here: Just scroll down to Sig Sauer and you'll see some Amazing grips.

LGS is limited gun supply. It's really hard to find guns sometime because, well.., everyone knows that this place is cheap. they are internationally known and have a huge client base. Good luck in finding one.

I have a couple of CPO 229's that were absolutely pristine when I got them; they were indistinguishable from new. Hard to beat a deal like that.

The 229 is one of the best .40's on the market, in my opinion.
