Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins

It is the story of an Economic Hitman. Someone who helps to overload the government of countries with tons of debt by building larger infrastructure than they need- Hydro Electric Dams, Water systems, power plants. The plants are build by US contractors so the profits stay with the US companies....

This over extension of credit by the world bank and others creates the real possibility of default or hyper inflation... to be allowed to renegotiate theses loans, they have to allow the US to have access to natural resources, build US Bases, get their UN vote, etc. This is done is some very creative ways

It goes throught the 3 day war when Isreal was invaded, that led to the US giving aid to Isreal. This led to the OPEC oil embargo and the gas lines.... it covers how the us negotiated around the entire issue.. amazing read
