I just bought this at Cabelas for general around the camp use/ survival situations and I'm wondering if it will melt if exposed to boiling temperature? I wouldn't want that to happen to me in a survival situation :p

  2. I've boiled water in my aluminum mess kit pot tons of times. It will burn, but I've never had any problems other than that.

  3. Aluminum's melting point is 1,220 degrees F.

That's about 1,000 degrees above the boiling point of water.

I think you are safe from it melting while you are boiling water.

Now if you have a real hot heat source and you boil the pot dry you could melt it.

Under NORMAL cooking conditions you have no worries.

I would not sit an aluminum pot directly onto red hot coals. Better to suspend the pot over the fire source or put it on a grate or rocks.
