Hi, I'm looking for the correct COL for 45acp using Berrys plated 200gr FP bullets, not the 200gr plated SWC bullet. Thanks!

Simple rule of thumb to remember to avoid pressure problems; seat the bullet as long as possible that will still allow for functioning in magazines without touching rifling.

For revolvers simply make sure the projectile doesn't protrude past cylinder face.

Well, going with that advice I'll probably go ahead and load it like I would the same weight in SWC at about 1.245" and see how that looks/works. The Laser Cast LSWCs I've shot run flawless in my G21 at that length. I'm really getting away from shooting all the lead bullets which dirty up my Glock too quickly though, and I've been having great luck with the Rainier and now hopefully the Berry's bullets I'm trying out. Thanks.

BTW, I've been having a devil of a time finding W231 so I recently picked up a couple of pounds of Hogdons HP-38 and it is a fantastic powder for 45acp. Cleaner burning than W231, perfect ignition everytime. Better than factory rounds IMO, just thought I'd pass that along here.

W231 and HP38 are exactly the same powder... all loading data is interchangeable. I simply get what ever is available at the time. Good luck.

Well, 1.245" looks a bit long with this bullet so I've got it down to 1.195" where it seems like I'm in the lower middle of the acceptable seating range for a semi-auto and will see how two boxes of them at that COL feed and shoot.

You'll find 1.20"-1.22" will fit most chambers.

I've loaded the 200 Berry's FP at 1.25 for my G30. No problems.

Thanks everyone. I may experiment a little but I see I'm somewhere about the middle range of adjustment. Here's the reply today to the question from Berry's via e-mail:

    Rick,

We do not have our own tested load data, but some of our customers sometimes share their data with us - current input for our 45-200 Gr. FP includes OAL s from 1.165 to 1.180 -

Data from Speer has useful loads with 12 different powders & within the above OAL s.

    Good Luck,

FWIW, 1.210" runs in 5 diff 1911s as well as my short throated XDTAC.

Thanks, every little bit helps! At 1.195" I'm at the minimum OAL I'm going to try with this load so I may try your suggestion next if this one doesn't feed reliably.

I have found Fred's loads to be spot on and usually perfect in all my applications. I do work up the load and usually end up stopping right where he said it should be. The 1.21" runs flawlessly in everything I have run it in, even a G36.:faint::cool:

Thanks again for the 1.210" tip. I'll load up a box of that tonight and see how it works and prints compared to the stuff I've already loaded. If it feeds in the G30s and G36s then it's probably a cinch it will feed in my G21 and anything else I'm liable to shoot it out of.

To date, they have run flawlessly through my G36, a Sig P220, and an XD-45.
