Cleaning the lugs

Discussion in 'Black Rifle Forum' started by Glock 1, Mar 29, 2012.

  1. I use the brush that came with my Colt to clean the lugs and the chamber and it does good work but how do you guys get the crap out after the brush? I find it very heard to get in there.

    I clean the bore.
Then clean the chamber & lugs with chamber brush.
I then place the muzzle in a pan. I use aresol RemOil to
rinse the debris from the lug & chamber area.

I follow up with compressed air & rags to dry.
  5. So just wash it all down the barrel. Interesting. Never thought of that. Good idea. I have lots of remoil too. Thanks, I will try that.

Let me make this clear,......this is the ONLY use I have for RemOil.

As a lube it is garbage,.......IMO
  7. I agree since switching to Mobil 1. I use it on all my guns now. I used to use remoil. But, I have 6 big cans because my wife doesn't know the difference between remoil and Gun Scrubber.
  8. Bent q-tips

I have used those chamber stars. They work well, but they are just too much $ to keep using.

  9. People make this more difficult than it needs to be. I use a chamber brush then aerosol it out with gun scrubber or whatever, maybe a couple Q tips but that’s it.
  10. Chamber brush, the little "tapco" items and some Gunscrubber or Milcomm Cleaner down the bore into an old t-shirt works for me.
  11. I am a gun scrubber fanatic and I just didn't think about it spraying it out. lol

I've ruined too many pistol sights, stripped paint & distorted cheap plastic.
    No GunScrubber for me,........thanks.

For lube I use Rem Oil for cold weather. In hot weather it good for a short time. Try Break Free for warmer climates.

  17. Brake cleaner: $3 a can at walmart, gunscrubber: $ More. Ingredients: same thing.
  18. I was just wondering if brake cleaner would somehow harm something cause I got cans sitting around and hate buying specialty products when their are only so many chemicals available and I'm sure I have equivalent. Break cleaner kicks ass for any greasey hard to get areas...Buy a case of it...

Solvent, chamber brush, Q-tips, tooth brush & a little elbow grease.

If you think you need anything else you're over thinking the problem.

I've used break-free in the past on M240 machine guns but never on an AR.

You should never let your AR get to the point you need to use it.
