    Hey Hoosiers!

I applied for my CCW January 3rd in Fort Wayne. It is March 1st and I still haven't received anything!! Is this normal? Can I call someone to check its status?

I'm starting to think someone at the FWPD went and bought beer with my application fee.

    ughhh....

My buddy at work applied for his lifetime one about a week or two ago. He said that when he asked "how long", they said it could be up to 180 days  .

I got mine about 3 years ago (obviously not the lifetime one) and it only took about 2-3 weeks. I have heard it has started taking a lot longer now that the lifetime thing has taken effect.

Thats ridiculous!! It has to be like 15 minutes of paperwork, maybe a database check. 180 days..... they might as well start telling people they don't give a sh$$ right to their face !

Well.. I've never thought of it that way.. but now that you've pointed it out.. It does look like they don't care ..

Or even worse.. they want us to feel greatly inconvienced because we ( by way of the political system ) made them do something they really didn't want to do..

If you're waiting for a "CCW," you might want to pack a lunch and bring a comfy chair, because you'll be waiting a long, long, long time. That's because Indiana does not issue a "CCW." We have the Indiana License to Carry Handgun, with no requirement for concealment, nor is it a "permit."

Heh. Yeah, I'm bein' a smarta**, but it's like 04:44 in the morning and I shouldn't even be awake!

You are going to be waiting awhile longer. I was told on February 27th by the State Police that it is taking 14 weeks after they cash your money order. I just got mine on the 28th. I sent mine in on November 30th.

No, but I have heard that they have had more permits than usual applied for and less people doing the job.

Plus, the understaffed Firearms Division has to take time away from doing background checks to answer whiney-azzed phone calls asking what is taking their 'permit' so long.....

    Be patient, you'll get it.

Be calm, brasshopper. Use the time to practice your taiqigun (dry practice). It's creeping up from 12 weeks to around the 14 week mark.

If you want to make a change, write your state rep and senator. As well, yell at the NRA and ISRPA and tell them you want increased funding and some sort of legislative imposed time limit.

As far as I know there is already a 60 day time limit, not that that does you any good.

mpholic, sorry, I failed to make myself clear--time limits with teeth.

E.g., for every day over 30 days, make it a $100 fine payable to the applicant by the State Police (payable from their training funds), or, for GTers, 500 rounds of ammo.

    Actually it's "too shay."

If you don't get it then nevermind (sort of a GT inside joke). ;)

I called the ISP this afternoon and asked them about MY application, as it has been almost 60 days since I sent it in. I was told, "If you have the receipt from your money order (the one that was sent to the ISP w/ your application), find out if it was cashed yet. If it was cashed, count out 14 weeks, and that is when your LTC will be issued. We are running 14 weeks behind & working on November right now."

They were very nice and helpful (as always) and told me the reasons for the backlog were many (slammed w/ applications, cut/reassignment of staff, changes in computers/procedures/etc.), but they were working as best as they could.

I went to my Probate court the other day to inquire about a CCW and they told me 6 month wait due to backlog...that many people are putting in for one...thank God I don't need one (LEO)...but would like one anyways...6 months in Georgia!!! :steamed:
