I know that the .50bmg can/will hit a target a mile away. But other than that, what kind of penetration/capabilities are we talking about?

What kind of barriers can this bullet go through?

If it helps, I've got API and APIT rounds.

    Thanks!

If you can believe it, I've owned it for almost a year and STILL haven't shot it.

I was just curious what was known about what the round can do other than shoot far distances?

    Thanks!

Watching some of the shots taken with the .50 on the History channel I don't think there is not much it can't do. Punching through a block wall and turning 3 guys into hamburger from a mile out is amazing.

The BC of military ball ammo stinks. It drops like a stone at any significant range.

The BC of Hornady's AMAX 750gr ammo is 1.050 giving it tremendous downrange performance. It carries over 7000ft lbs out at 1000 yds. I called Hornady and talked to one guy about that and the tech guy said that the AMAX slug wasn't a big time penetrator.

By the way, I'm rather certain that the Brit that got the 2400 yd/meter whatever shot in Afghanistan was using AMAX ammo borrowed from the US. Don

They can kill you if you shoot them straight up in the air and even if they hit you base -first.

Woah!!! My rounds can penetrate almost an inch of steel from 500 yds. away!!! And I guess if I spent enough time and rounds shooting at a 2ft. thick reinforced concrete wall...they'll penetrate that to!!

    Thanks!

IIRC, I saw an episode where a Canadian sniper hit a terrorist carrying a machine gun walking along a ridge at 1.5 miles. It took 3 rounds to make the hit. He used ammo given to him by an American sniper and let it sit in the sun to heat up before loading it one round at a time. The terrorist carrying the machine gun was in a group of 3 terrorists. They ignored the first 2 misses as they had no idea where they were coming from and were arrogant enough to not take cover. I hope his 72 virgins look like Janet Reno.
