Do not have funds for both, what would you choose, and why?

Educate me as it has been over 40 Years since I had an M-16 Issued to me by my UNCLE in DC.:wow:

Ah, now you've really gone and done it. Might as well ask "9mm or .45?"

Knowing you, I would suggest the AK because it is cheaper...

I never liked the M-16 issued to me 40 yrs. plus ago nor the clones thereafter, I do like the AKM for reliability, ammo selection, cheap surplus mags that work, easy cleaning and I like .30 caliber. You will get many opinions but I say try them both out one way or the other then decide which YOU like better. Good luck!

I have both. My vote would be for the AR15. It is more accurate, versatile and feels better shooting. What do you want it for?

Guns are like software. You have to start at the end (the requirements) and determine what it will be used for and work backward from there. IMHO too many people just go out and get a "cool" gun then try to figure out what they want to do with it.

Easy answer - buy both. Buy the one you are most anticipating first, then buy the other. You didnt state what your plans were for it. If you just want it for range use, you cant beat the x39 for cheap ammo and cheap mags - plus a 70 round drum is always fun.

I bought my AR first since it was the platform I was most familiar with, and a few years later picked up my first AK (a draco).

Be an American, buy the AR. I cannot believe how many commie haters here buy commie guns.

I've owned several AR-15 rifles in various configurations. I owned several AK-47 rifles as well. Ammo for the AK is less expensive than 5.56 mm and the venerable AK-47 is much like the old "Timex" watches....takes a licking and keeps on ticking. You can't go wrong with either. I do like the 30 caliber round though. A buddy in Vietnam had an AK that was pretty beat up...dirt, grit, rust and such. He'd take the heal of his boot and kick down on the small charging handle on the bolt, to dislodge the rust, and it fired flawlessly. I had one and never ever cleaned it and never had a problem with functionality. I have had Chinese, Russian, Egyptian and Romanian manufactured AK's and like them all. Russian ones are better constructed.

    AR Pros:
    More accurate, higher velocity round
It's a Mr. Potato Head when it comes to accessories (the sky is the limit)

    AR Cons:
More expensive to buy, more expensive to own
    Smaller caliber
Less reliable action (although it's a world better than your "uncle's" old M-16)

    AK Pros:
Cheaper to buy, cheaper to own
    Rock solid reliability
    Larger caliber

    AK Cons:
    Less accurate
Less accessory selection (everything is easy to find, but less "options" overall)

If it's a plinking toy I say AR...

You can throw a different upper on top and shoot .22.

You can have multiple uppers for carbine or longer distance range.

Besides, so many parts, knick knacks and fun stuff to add onto an AR.
