# Can I get to 300 yards with this?

What is my max range that I can dial to?
-22lr Wolf MT- 1050fps, 40gr, BC=.130,
-scope rings= 20moa gain
-Scope=50moa adjustment range (which I guess means 25 in either direction)
-sighted in at 50 yards

Also, I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me or direct me as to how I can calculate this for myself in future...Thanks!

The bullet will go 300 yards, but don't expect great accuracy. A BC of .13 and a MV of 1050 fps is roughly similar to a 9mm pistol round.

Mr. Smith,

I appreciate your taking the time to respond, but you didn't really answer my question. Let me be more clear. I'm trying to learn how to calculate and pre-determine the max range at which I will be able to dial to with the turrets on a tactical style scope.

I didn't give an exact answer because it is the wrong tool for the job. However, here is the answer.

Step 1. Noting your current zero, dial your scope up until it stops. Note how many MOA up from your 50 yard zero you have until the knob stops. It should be approximately 25+20, let's say 45 +/- 5 MOA.

Step 2. On this ballistic chart, determine where you have 40-50 MOA drop:

You didn't list your altitude and temperature or the sight over bore distance, so I used 2000' DA and 2.0" SOB. Your setup should be limited to somewhere between 265 and 310 yards without using additional reticle holdover.

You can use any ballistic calculator to generate the data above, or approximate it with a "9mm pistol round."

I plan to use this setup as a cheap way to practice fighting the elements(wind, gravity,etc.) and to simulate the long range shots that will be taken in the future with high powered rifles. I'm guessing that about 90% of the skills/technique used in long range hunting can be obtained through practicing with a near identical setup in a 22lr at shorter ranges. I realize that I will only get limited feedback from this rifle as far as my ability to shoot accurately. I also know that, at those ranges, that projectile pretty much becomes useless for any purpose other than making steel ring or perferating paper. I certainly dont plan on taking any animals at those ranges with this setup. Anyway...
