We are due for an oil change on our 2011 Camry SE 4cyl soon. This is our last freebie from Toyota. When we bought ours, we didn't even drive a V6, but I have a hankering to ask for a test drive of a 2012 SE V6.

Have any of you driven the SE V6? 0-60 in 5.8 and 30 mpg? Impressive.

I hear it also comes with a pair of Dockers and a plaid shirt.

Buy it, then drive it hard enough to prove its 'sleeper' status.

Report back on the MPG. (Hint... to get 30 MPG you'll be getting 0-60 times of around 13.8 seconds.

It only be a sleeper if you pulled that V6 and put and LS7 in it. If you drove it like an econobox it would likely still get 30 on the hwy.

If you had enough tire it would surprise many and your mileage would suffer accordingly.

I always laugh when someone's looking for a 10 second car that gets 40+ MPG and is under 10 grand.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Let's see...you could go the same distance and speed as the 4 cyl., but use more gas to do it?

    Why?

We drove a 2011 Camry SE V6 the day that we bought our 2011 Camry SE 4 cylinder.

The V6 actually does 2 things for you.

    Uses more gas/less gas mileage.
    Costs more $$$ to buy.

Seriously. . . I drove both, and I drove them both "like I stole it".

The V6 did nothing 'special' for me.

I like the 4 cylinder and 24 mpg (city) and 34-36 mpg (highway).

    Beige. Bloated. Wrong wheel drive.

"Sleeper" implies some hint of enthusiast intent. Toyota builds appliances.

The GT-86 should be hitting dealerships soon.

Car and driver gave it great reviews. It's got rear wheel drive too.

    The GT-86 was a concept.

The actual car is the FR-S, which is a twin to the Subaru BRZ (and uses a Suby powertrain).

It's great that Toyota learned how to make a driveshaft again, but it's still a 4 banger that needs premium to hit 200 hp. I'd be wondering what I was paying for every time I filled up. A flat 6 with 3.6+ liters could easily crack 300 hp, in a nice lightweight package.

    Agreed.

Toyota hasn't made anything worth driving in many years. They make commuting appliances and nothing more. Unless you're into trucks, I guess, maybe those are good.

The FR-S is an interesting package hampered by a deficit of power. I don't think it needs a 6 banger so much as the STI's turbocharged boxer 4. If it had 300HP, I'd be interested.

But as far as the Camry... lol no it's not a sleeper. It's just a slow boring appliance.

If you opt for the leather seats and sun roof you get a free pair of penny loafers too. LOL:whistling:

From what I've heard the upgraded version (not sure what the badging will be) will have 300 hp.

Well, having the ability to accelerate rapidly from ~40 to ~80mph is something I consider highly desirable in an automobile. I don't really care about 0-60, or the quarter mile, but passing that semi on the interstate before that three mile long, single-lane, uphill construction zone comes up ... that's important.
