The Homeland Security industry has been pimping surveillance blimps for awhile. Now they expand to radar blimps.

It costs you money. They take it and spend it.

Sounds like they are having trouble detecting low flying aircraft in the D.C. area.

I suspect these blimps have downward looking radar and FLIR to keep track of suspicious kites and people.

    Wow! I am impressed.

    The possibilities .....

Someone, in some barn or garage, some home inventor is working on a Stealth model.

The surveillance models worked pretty well in Iraq. You can see a long way with those things depending on the weather. Add FLIR & laser designators, and you have a nifty toy.

The ground tethered ones have been used on the southern border and in Iraq for well over a decade. This one does seem a bit different.

IIRC, first one I saw was near Eagle Pass TX in 1997.

Ah ... ground tether is the key .... they can be hauled in and battened down when the weather turns bad ...
