Bear was more curious than anything I think. Hunter kept his cool. I'll bet his heart was pounding for a while.

  3. I'll bet he stops using sexual scents to lure deer in.

I was always told to make lots of noise in a situation like that. It did seem the bear was more curious than anything else. But shouldn't he have been making a lot of noise?

In my limited up-close exposure to black bear here, I just talk to them in the lowest voice I can. I don't want to shock them.

"Hello bear. Nice day, isn't it?"

    They always take off.

If I was in this position, I'd have probably spit some tobacco juice at his nose.

i was thinking I would have done something similar. But ya know, not tobacco juice.

  9. Copenhagen? naw... Kodiak.

It could be the hunter was eating something and the bear just wanted a taste.

Canyonman, I'm stealing that bear pic. I really like bears.

This thread reminds me I should never attempt to hunt all by myself. Or heck, maybe even at all. I would've shot that bear the first time it climbed all the way up to the tree stand. I guess a decent hunter would keep his cool, but I wouldnt. Which again, means I really have no business in the woods lol.

Was wathing River Monsters once. Jeremy Wade was in Alaska fishing. He was with a local who was carrying a S&W 500. A grizzly got too close so the local fired off a round. The bear retreated before advancing toward the two once again. If that thing isn't loud enough to scare a bear, nothing is.
