And I know you'll be able to answer this one.

How much 'armor' does the sternum provide? Can it be easily stabbed through with a knife? What about birdshot? I know it's not squat against even a .380, but I found myself wondering about knives and birdshot. Can you help my brother?

Dan, most folks' sternums won't stop much. In close, birdshot will go through. Knives go through it easily -- heck, there have been cases of knives being driven through heavy skull bone and even body armor. Knife blades occasionally get stuck in the human sternum, when the assailant tries to pull it back out. Unless the sternum is very thick, the thrust very weak, or the knife very dull and blunt, it's unlikely to stick on the way IN.

    best,
    Mas

Thanks Mas, I knew you'd have a ready answer. Are you ready to come back to Waterloo for a MAG 20 (complete) class?
