In Volusia County, the Sheriff's gun safety/CCW course is $25.00. 6hrs on a Saturday. They furnish the CCW application packet with your certificate.

Cost and class time seems to vary a LOT across Florida.

Example: my wife and I took the CWP class at an Orlando area gun shop for $60 each and it took about 2 hrs. It was VERY basic stuff, and honestly I was pretty surprised there wasn't more to it. I'm definitely interested in getting more advanced training, but we both had no trouble in demonstrating proficiency with a handgun to get the certificate.

One of the large nationwide sporting goods stores also quoted $60 for the class and 4-5 hrs of class time.

$25 is pretty cheap, but 6 hrs of class time might be a bit much just to get a certificate if you already have some training/experience with firearms.

I'd suggest calling every place that offers the class until you find the time and/or price point you're willing to pay.

That's a good price and a reasonable amount of time...

    Gunshows have the classes too...
