best kinda push up

    whats the best kind of push up for you and what do some do better than others? and whats a hindu pushup?

    never heard of a hindu pushup.....just do your basic pushup....the more you put your hands inside the more you work your tris.....

    Try pushups on rings/handles suspended from chains or straps.

    I do tricep pushups mostly, arms right against my sides. It sorta mimics the action of a proper punch.

    If I need a PT test for a career I'll be in trouble, cause now I suck at wide arm ones. I think doing a variety would be best.

    I find the elevated push-up with your feet on a chair is the mack daddy of Push-ups. If you can pump out sets of 30 of those, your regular PT tests/Push-ups will be easy. IMHO

    The elevated push-ups are good. I also change the width of my hands.

    Another good trick, sort like ateamer suggested: Put some dumbbells on the floor and use those as handles. Gives you a completely different burn.

    Hindu pushups are similar to, or the same as (depending on who you ask), divebomber or tiger pushups. You start from an arched position and arc through the pushup. Testosterone Magazine has an article with pictures. The article is about Matt Furey who incorporates them into his bodyweight workout system, and who may be responsible for the name.

    I usually do triangle pushups, which are when you make a triangle with your index and thumb finger and do a push up. Those seem to work your chest the most.

    If you want a really good workout, put a backpack on, put your feet on a chair, and start doing pushups. Books are good weights, more for a harder workout and less for an easier workout.

    However, I dont do much pushups anymore since I usually bench press instead.

    I second using dumbells for a elevated front...when I do my push ups I do 10 or so with my hands close and move them out a couple inches every set, moving your hands out is a nice little refresher and you work it all.

    Years ago, I used to knock out pushups with my son sitting on my shoulders. I should have kept on; maybe I sould still do it. He now weighs around 325...

    I've seen Matt Furey's 'Hindu pushups' in photos, but only one position. Is there a complete description of them somewhere?
