I picked up a copy of this months American Hangunner today mostly bc of the article on the P-07 but came across a list inside of what they consider to be the 11 best 9mm handguns of all time. While I'm still fairly new to handguns (8years) I have read enough and shot enough to have a few disagreements with this list.
    Here it is:
    1 Luger p-08
    2 Browning p35
    3 Walther p-38
    4 Sig p210 (really...)
    5 CZ-75 (absolutely)
    6 S&W 39
7 Sig Sauer p220 (not seeing it either)
8 Beretta 92 (I can live with that)
9 HK p7 ( should replace number 4... no question)
    10 Springfield EMP (very debatable)
11 Glock 19 (I would prefer 17 but all round the 19 is much more concealable)
What are your thoughts on this list... What would you add/remove???

I know a lot pf people like the EMP, but I think its an absolute joke that it made a list like that. I actually agree with a lot of those.

In my opinion, some are debatable, but EMP needs to go. That's just ridiculous.

The others are pretty much classic/iconic 9mms, but the EMP? Are they serious? :dunno:

I would have, out of formality, included the S&W 39 series 639, 39313 etc.

The Sig 220 ??? uhm, "No"

The EMP???? heck the Star BM and BKM have better histories. I could make as good a case for a Ruger Blackhawk 9mm/.357 convertible

By the way, you don't think the P210 should be there? I'd actually put it higher.

    Here's my list:

    1. Browning Hi-Power (p35)
    2. Smith & Wesson 952
    3. Sig P210
    4. Walther P88
    5. Luger
    6. Walther P38
    7. HK P7M8
    8. Sig X-Five
    9. Pardini GT-9
    10. Smith & Wesson 39
    11. CZ 75

This is my list of the greatest, not necessarily the highest quality or the most accurate. That's a different list. Many of these would be on there, but others would not.

I listed these models with a bunch of factors combined, to include historical significance and military pedigree, of which some have and some don't.

I've got them all to include multiple configurations of most of them.

    ...except for the EMP :whistling:

I still can not believe someone actually put it on the list with those others. That is funny as hell.

It nearly ruins the credibility of the whole list in my eyes. I'm not saying the EMP is a bad pistol, but it certainly doesn't fit the theme of that list at all. Wow :faint:

Had to at least add a Glock to that list. The Glock 9mm is a true icon in the gun world.

Yeah, I'll give you that, Joe. ;)

I'm just not much of a polymer fan. As far as polymers go, the G17 and G19 are the most iconic of them all.

  10. I saw that and the ONLY reason I could think of it even making the list is maybe the platform and size being one of the first really successful/reliable ones?? Casue I dont get it other than that either.

    Meh

I don't give two craps about most of those guns on the list.
The Luger, Walther, and P35 Browning are the most important three.

Definitely on the list for me:
    P7M8
    CZSP-01
    Glock 17, 19, 26.

I have an EMP .40. Great gun, but not a classic.

Maybe, I guess, but it doesn't even use true 1911 dimensions. Most micro 1911s still use a frame that is to scale. The EMP does not.

I just find it amazing that its on there with those others that have been around for 30 to 100+ years, used in world wars, etc.

The EMP? Well, maybe the Editor in Chief really likes it and said "we better make this a top 11 list instead of 10". :animlol:

Its almost a hard slap to the face of the others. Wow, what a joke...

Why is the glock 18 or the beretta 92fs not on the list?!?!? You think that the ability to go full auto would be an important factor

I assume you meant the Beretta 93R. :tongueout:

Yes I meant that one.... All the immediate searches that came up when I searched beretta full auto 9 said it was a 92fs. I stand corrected and admit that I am not a beretta fan boy.

A list of the top 11... I'd shorten it top 5
    1 Luger p-08
    2 Browning p35
    3 Walther p-38
    4 HK P7
    5 CZ-75
Those to me are the classic 9's. Its hard to chose between the g17 and CZ-75 but I stand behind my decision.

If we are using the yardstick "best" I just can't see the P-38 on a short list. "Influential" yes, but it really, on it's own merits, wasn't a "great" or "best in category" type gun.
It is the 'parent' of the much better S&W 39 series.

If "Influential" were part of the evaluation, then the Sig 210 deserves to be there because it is responsible for a lot of the CZ-75's qualities.

Can't agree with the choice of sig, but anyone who doesn't have a 92fs/m9 on their list hast shot one.

I'm not sure what makes the P7 and CZ75 more "classic" than the Sig P210.

The P210 was around decades before either of them, was used as a military pistol, and will outshoot anything else on that list by a country mile.

    Did you ever shoot one?
