I am new to the 9mm. (Have always been a .357 guy) Just bought a mod.19 Glock. From what I have read, the Speer 124 grn. +P hollow point is a good choice for home defense in this caliber. So, I'm thinking on settling on this round. But for practice, what round mimics the drop of this round? What should I buy in bulk to practice with?

Right now, I'd say ANYTHING you can find on the store shelves would be good! Ammo is pretty scarce so I'd say just shoot it.

That said, 124JHP+P is a great round for SD. A cheaper RN ammo is a fairly good substitute and range ammo. Steel cased ammo is OK, cheap and probably impossible to find at this time. Get some 9mm ammo, be thankful and practice.

That's the best range ammo I've ever shot in 9mm. I understand it's a perfect ballistics match for the 124-grain
Gold Dot but not sure how closely it resembles the 124-grain Gold Dot +P.

Sellier & Bellot makes a pretty good 124-grain FMJ that is pretty robust --- if you can ever find it.

I've also had success with the 124gr aguila fmj. Fairly accurate and clean ammo at least in my experiences. Speer lawman is probably my favorite brand of range ammo followed by federal champion and blazer brass. These days I shoot what I can find.

I have a bunch of Speer lawman clean fire in 357sig and its awesome.

Lawman 124gr is great. I reload so I can load my 124s up to match the Gold Dot 124+P as closely as I want. Though personally, in a larger 9mm I don't find the difference that great anyway, compared to say a +P+ round.

    Great choice BTW.

CCI Blazer Brass 124Gr. is a good choice to practice with and will be fairly close.

American Eagle, S&B or Fiocchi. These are the hottest FMJ range ammos I have come across. Back before the Ammopocalypse (that's my word), Winchester used to once and while sell the 124gr NATO round (FMJ somewhere in between standard pressure and +P). But during this ammo shortage, you don't have much choice. You are lucky to find any FMJ range ammo at a price that doesn't make you want to commit harakiri.

It wasn't too horribly long ago that you could buy the black and white box version of this at Walmart. 500 round cases were also quite cheap (compared to today) at many internet ammo retailers.

Speer Lawman TMJ or WW NATO Spec (good luck with finding some)

Last range outing with my 92A1 I had Lawman 115 gr, Federal Range and Target and Ultramax reloads. The Lawman was much more powerful than the others; equal to or more powerful than the Fed. 9BP I use for HD.

After shooting Speer Lawman in 9mm and .45 ACP: Me likey and I want more!!
